World Heritage – A call for action and finance to implement the GBF

17 October 2024 – As the global conservation community gathers for the CBD COP16, IUCN puts a spotlight on the unrealised opportunity to prioritise funding for conservation action in World Heritage Sites. Whilst the effective protection of World Heritage sites is essential to deliver on the Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) and global climate goals, one of the major underlying challenges is the lack of prioritised support for World Heritage. Multilateral funding mechanisms may provide an opportunity to fill this funding gap.
