Michigan schools would need more comprehensive plans for cardiac emergencies under proposed legislation being considered by state lawmakers.

A two-bill package a Senate committee passed Wednesday would require all high school athletic coaches — head and assistant — to maintain valid certification in life-saving measures including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and use of an automated external defibrillator (AED).
