EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) – Mater Dei High school student athletes are now one step closer to playing at the next level.
Wednesday afternoon, four senior students signed their national letter of intent to play their respective sport.
Kendal Waugerman started the day by signing to play soccer at University of Indianapolis. Ethan Goodin signed up to play football for Austin Peay State University baseball player, Luke Mayer will continue his career at Wabash College and senior Kate Halbig will take her tennis talents to IU Southeast.
Both Goodin and Mayer say they’re excited to play at the next level, all while getting an education.
“Ever since I was a kid I knew I wanted to play baseball for almost as long as I can,” said Mayer. “For now I think it’s just a pathway to get my education to a greater level and to help me to have a successful life after baseball.”
“It means a lot to the community to be able to show what I’ve been working for, and what a lot of the people been supporting me for,” said Goodin.
