Letter: Rochester should lead the way in compassionate science

In April, both the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced new initiatives to expand innovative, human-based science while reducing animal use in research. According to NIH Director Dr. Jay Bhattacharya, “This human-based approach will accelerate innovation, improve healthcare outcomes, and deliver life-changing treatments. It marks a critical leap forward for science, public trust, and patient care.” I encourage all Minnesota research labs to be leaders in this national effort to advance science using new, emerging, and humane technologies.
